Once you have all the basics together, you may find you want to add some finishing touches to make your bike YOURS. There are some choices of color along the way that you’ll get to make — tire color, fender color, bartape color, saddle color, frame color. Then there are functional add-ons to make your ride more enjoyable.
Fenders – Functional and sleek, they’ll easily bolt onto the eyelets of your old frame. If you have a track bike you can use SKS Raceblade fenders, which clip on to the frame. Fenders will definitely save your pants if you ride when the roads are wet. Well worth it for a dry behind.
Bar End Caps – Not only do they keep your bars from rusting, but they can also keep your tape from unraveling.
Computers – A low cost computer is very useful tool to guage your distance, your speed and your length of ride.
Heart Rate monitor – Use one if you’re going the distance and want to make sure you’re within your target heart range for a complete workout or if you’d like the make sure you’re not straining yourself on a more challenging ride.
